Julia the Pig

Last summer, Farm Sanctuary’s Emergency Rescue Team rescued Julia, a pregnant breeding sow, from a factory pig farm where she was being abused. Farm Sanctuary describes the terrible situation: “As she was moved from a cramped gestation crate to an equally cramped farrowing crate to give birth, a worker brutally kicked and beat her and then ran an electrified cattle prod over the length of her body as she screamed in pain. The assault ended only when the sow collapsed, at which point she was dragged into the crate by her ears.”

Thankfully, Julia was rescued, and hours after she arrived at the Watkins Glen, NY shelter, she gave birth to 16 premature babies. She is now able to do something others like her are not – raise her family.

Not only is Julia Farm Sanctuary’s Mother of the Year, but she was also named one of the 5 best moms of all time by VegNews magazine. If you’d like to sponsor Julia, please visit http://www.farmsanctuary.org/julia.
