There's more to Portland than just vegan doughnuts and vegan ice cream. Here are some vegan Portland destinations to visit on your next trip.

What's in this post

Despite the appearance of my previous PDX post, there’s more to veg Portland than doughnuts and ice cream. I’ll start with some Downtown-area highlights and hit a few side notes on where we ventured a bit. I’ll even start with something impressive we found that is not edible.

Powell’s City of Books

Powell’s City of Books on Burnside is known as the “mothership” of bookstores…and right in the lobby they displayed a copy of Beg: A Radical New Way of Regarding Animals, signed by author Rory Freeman. On the different floors and in the nooks and crannies, there’s a bounty of veg lit and cookbooks to peruse.

Sizzle Pie

Right across the street from Powell’s is pizza chain Sizzle Pie with ten different “vegan pies” on the menu made with Daiya—we enjoyed the Steve Caballero. Sadly, we could not order all ten but really hope to someday. Maybe we could get married again, do it in Portland, cater with pizza and a coffin full of Voodoo Doughnuts? Yes, Voodoo Doughnuts will fill a small coffin with vegan doughnuts (Read my earlier post, Vegan Portland: Vacation Never Tasted So Good for more about that deliciousness).

The Vegetarian House

Chinatown is near Voodoo Doughnut and in downtown, as well. The Vegetarian House there attracted us with its name, and we had the General Tso’s. The menu was broken down into seafood, beef, chicken and tofu, but the beauty is that it was ALL vegan. If you like a good fake meat, this is your spot. Heck, even if you don’t, there are plenty of veggies and tofu. The food was fantastic and the service was great!

Hungry Tiger Too

Across the bridge is Hungry Tiger Too, a bar with half of its menu dedicated to vegan bar food, like corn dogs and nachos. Take a look at the corn dog basket, mac n’ cheese, and the reuben with soup. All vegan!

Veggie Grill

In the greater Portland area, there are some vegan franchise gems. The Veggie Grill, southwest of Portland in Beaverton, is all-vegan, economical, has amazing variety, and great service! The only downside is that Veggie Grill hasn’t spread any farther than the West Coast.

Native Foods

Farther southwest of Portland in Tigard, Native Foods has the benefit of spreading across the country, opening two hundred new locations in the coming few years. The menu is innovative, fresh, and delicious! Native Foods also proudly displays its many contributions to the community with charity nights. I hope that just one of the two hundred locations appears in my city or in one I can get to in an hour.

Although I also went to an awesome video game spot that has vegan treats, found veg food with ease, and had great hikes in the Columbia River Gorge with vegan picnics, I must stop somewhere. But you don’t have to. What do you know of the vegan Mecca that should be shared?
