Happy Father’s Day to the World’s Daddies

We gave a shout-out to the mothers back in May, so now we wanted to do the same for our dads- it’s only fair, Daddies! Here’s the “daddy-shout-out” for KD’s daddy and Charleen’s pappaw.  Enjoy, and don’t forget about your daddy!

I was five years old when I first heard AC/DC’s Back in Black album blaring from the record player in our living room.  It was six o’clock in the morning and my dad was making breakfast- pancakes to be exact (and we all know how I feel about pancakes).  My father was, and is today, an early riser.  I was, and am today, not an early riser.  Regardless, we all got up when Dad got up.  Breakfasts at my house were eaten ridiculously early, and the wake up call was usually accentuated with 70’s and 80’s heavy metal.  It’s just how my dad rolled.  To this day I call classic rock (that’s what they call it now- sigh), Saturday Morning Pancake Music- it just stuck.

My dad is awesome and I love him so much.  In honor of Father’s Day and my own Dad, here’s some French Pancakes vegan-style and Saturday Morning Pancake Music courtesy of AC/DC.  Rock on! – KD

Tools were a part of my everyday surroundings growing up as much as popsicles, candy, Barbies, and Hot Wheels were.  This is in no small thanks to my Pappaw.  What could possibly be better when you’re seven years old, than building a truck camper with your grandpa then taking it on a road trip?  We kept up on baseball with the radio, pumped the hell out of water wells at campgrounds, and was sure to stop at every single Stuckey’s location we came upon.  I’m certain these experiences are why I’m an insatiable explorer with a rather insatiable vegan sweet tooth.

Pappaw left the world at the much too early age of 67, a father and grandfather.Pappaw’s music of choice?  Seemingly, anything from Hee Haw.  Here’s to you Pappaw! – CA
