Meet some of the residents at Sampson’s Sanctuary Animal Sanctuary:

Part of the Sampson Sanctuary Gang

Sampson’s Sanctuary is a non-profit animal sanctuary on 144 acres of land in North Central Alabama where over 180 animals call home.  Their mission is very simple, “To alleviate the suffering of animals.”  Yes, it is my mission as well.

Sampson’s Sanctuary is a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization. (It’s okay if you don’t know what that means, I had to look that shit up too.  Basically there are 26 types of non-profit organizations according to the US Internal Revenue Code: Religious, Educational, Charitable, Scientific, Literary, Testing for Public Safety, to Foster National or International Amateur Sports Competition, or Prevention of Cruelty to Children or Animals Organizations.  See? You learn something every day!)

Sampson’s founder, Dwight Norris talks about the story behind the Sanctuary:

“Sampson was a wonderful hamadryas baboon who sadly, passed away while in my care. Having been utilized as a laboratory animal, Sampson suffered through years of psychological and physical experiments. Sampson came to me before I had any knowledge or understanding of the plight of laboratory animals, but in short measure, I was able to witness the devastating effects. I credit Sampson for helping me understand my role in ending the suffering of laboratory primates as well as that of other abused, abandoned and unwanted animals. I will always be grateful for the lessons I learned from this brave and noble soul. He was my friend.

Our sanctuary is lovingly dedicated to his memory.”

Today there are all different types of animals at the Sanctuary.  I think it’s so beautiful that they reach out and take animals from all walks of life so to speak.  Unfortunately due to the economic conditions they cannot accept any more animals into the sanctuary.  If you have the time, please go and visit their site and learn more about how they are making a difference in the lives of animals.  And, if you have the means, please donate to a good cause.  100% of your donation will go directly to the care of the animals.  How fantastic!
