Your Daily Vegan "WTF" moment…
According to the Associated Press, a New York City teenager has admitted that she did not take a kitten out of the oven after a friend put it there. The animal roasted to death.
17-year-old Cheyenne Cherry pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges of animal cruelty and attempted burglary. The New York authorities said that Cherry and her 14-year-old friend “ransacked a Bronx apartment before putting the cat in the oven.” The kitten, a baby, cried and scratched in total terror to get out before dying the agonizing death.
Animal Activists were waiting outside the courtroom for Cherry on Wednesday. Not deterred, Cherry stuck out her tongue and told the activists that the kitten, named Tiger Lily, was “dead”. Cherry will serve a year in jail under a plea bargain and the 14-year-old accomplice was charged with aggravated animal cruelty and burglary.
This sickens me. Compassion is not an inherited trait, or even one that applies solely to animals. Compassion should be taught along with other important values and morals as children. Without it, we have things like this happen. Respect all lives, not just humans. It’s so important and so elemental.

What these teenagers did was very wrong, on many levels, but let’s be adults here. Think of all the extremely stupid and wrong things you did as a teenager. Now think about the guilt that you feel for some of those things you did. These girls are going to have to live with the guilt of their actions for the rest of their lives. As vegans, we are supposed to practice compassion and love for all sentient beings, including humans who make terrible decisions. We are no better than they if we stoop to their level and wish equal suffering upon them. Why not show them the love and compassion we claim to practice, and change their minds and actions by setting an example?

Isn’t it terrifying that teenagers could do this?? What monsters!

I second that- it’s too late to teach this monster any compassion. Set an example for the younger accomplice and turn the heat way up in Cherry’s cell…

“Respect all life, not just humans.”
That would imply that these monsters care about humans. Which I don’t think they do. This makes me so sick, I truly think they should roast in the oven too. Is there any hope that they will ever give a sh*t about anything? Can they be taught compassion at this stage? I doubt it. Fry em too I say. Stick em in solitary for the rest of their life. And turn up the heat in the cell.
