A Verry Vegan Valentine ~ Part One

Saint Valentine's Day + Vegan Chocolate = Winner

What's in this post

Vintage Valentine's Day Card

Ah, Saint Valentine’s Day- or more commonly called, Valentine’s Day.  It’s a day brought to us courtesy of early Christian martyrs named Valentine, or- better yet, the sharp tip of Cupid’s arrow.  If you Wikipedia that shit, and I did, it’ll tell you that Valentine’s Day is “traditionally a day on which lovers express their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as “valentines“).”

So, it’s a day of gifts.  Who doesn’t like gifts, right?  If you’ve got yourself a love, you know better than to come home empty handed- even if you both agree that- Valentine’s Day is stupid, and that you wouldn’t exchange gifts because you don’t need a gift to know that you love each other.  Yeah, even if that happens.

So, you wanna woo a sexy vegan?  Give your friends a sweet treat for being awesome?  How about sending your Mom a valentine that makes her weep with joy?  Am I getting carried away?  Yes.  My point, I’ve put together some compassionate Valentine’s Day gift ideas for the loved ones in your life, which I’ll be sharing all week.  Each one of these companies, individuals, and products are vegan.  Which makes them the perfect gifts for the holiday of Love.

First up, chocolate.  It’s delicious, it’s sexy, it’s fun, and pretty much everyone loves it.  And it makes a great Valentine’s Day gift.

Vegan Dark Chocolate

NO Whey! Chocolates has just what the love doctor ordered.  NO Whey! Chocolates is in the business of making scrumptious vegan “light” and dark chocolates.  If you’ve missed milk chocolate as a vegan, these chocolates are for you.

Stacie Wernick, owner of NO Whey! Chocolates, has been vegan for seven years and says that their vegan light chocolate all started with her brother.  He never liked dark chocolate.

Mom, needing to make her grownup children happy, came up with a creamy chocolate that he liked, and believe me, he is not an easy person to please.  So, No Whey! was born.

When Stacie decided to start hand making chocolates, she knew that she had to ensure her ingredients were animal-free.

My brother informed me about sugar that was filtered with bone char.  My pet peeve was Peta who had foods on their vegan list that I wouldn’t touch.  I wouldn’t eat anything  that I didn’t know exactly where it came from.  Nabisco didn’t know- we asked.  That’s me.  Call me extreme, compulsive, whatever.  I really didn’t need that stuff anyway and I stopped wanting it as well.

But what Stacie really wants is to show you health and happiness, in the form of rich, creamy, chocolate-y (vegan) goodness.

We participate in a lot of mainstream fairs and festivals selling our confections.  It feels so great to see so many really young vegans and vegan families (mine would have had me committed).  We want to show people there is another path where animals are happy, people are healthy, and  they can eat great food- especially chocolate.

You can order these delightful confections, including their pretty Valenine’s Day boxed set, on their website, NO Whey! Chocolates.  Trust me, your Valentine will thank you.
