‘Twas the night before Valentine’s Day

‘Twas the night before Valentine’s Day, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse
The valentines were stuffed in the envelopes with care
In hopes of St. Valentine’s Day love to share

The dogs were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of peanut butter and carrots danced in their heads
My spouse bundled up, and I in my cap
Had just settled down for a long winter’s nap
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
The dogs sprang from their beds to see what was the matter
Away to the windows they flew like a flash
But they were too short to open the shutters and throw up the sash
So they barked and barked to see outside to the snow
Which surely held something, they just had to know
Barking & barking until I got up to see
A bunch of nothing, how lucky for me

Irritated, I stumbled back to my bed
Shivering and shivering from my feet to my head
The dogs, giving up, resigned themselves to slumber
While I lay there awake, left to ponder and wonder
Would folks forget that tomorrow is the day
Of hearts and chocolates and lovers play
A week of suggestions I already posted online
One more post I thought, this one to remind
Too late for many, but still time for some
