I plan to help spread the word of what vegans are about and support other vegans like I have been supported. So far, I love being vegan and I plan to continue practicing the lifestyle.

So Far, I Love Being Vegan

By Gina Lay, Guest Contributor

I stopped eating animal products after I watched the movie Food Inc. I was horrified at what I saw. I felt sick to my stomach and sad at the same time. I felt awful. After I watched the movie I decided I wanted to learn more so I went searching online for information. I, again, could not believe what I read and the videos I saw!

I never realized what these poor animals had to go through.  I never stopped to think about where my meat came from or how the animal were treated until now. These animals are being treated cruelly with no respect.  After doing my research I feel confident that I am doing the right thing for me. This decision to become vegan may not be for everyone but its right for me.  It’s a lifestyle I feel good about.  Not only am I saving an animal, I am eating more healthy.

A lot of people have supported my decision of a vegan diet and some have not. The funny thing is that I don’t care what people say because I feel so good about going vegan it doesn’t bother me. I have made a lot of delicious meals and met a lot of nice people online. I am going to plant a vegetable garden in the Spring and continue learning how to cook delicious vegan recipes. I plan to help spread the word of what vegans are about and support other vegans like I have been supported. So far, I love being vegan and I plan to continue practicing the lifestyle.

Food Inc. did it for me also. It took 54 years being on this planet but I could no longer stay in denial of how my eating practices were affecting the lives of animals and the life of the planet. I sleep better now.

Congratulations on making the switch to a vegan diet. I am in the same boat- my boyfriend watched Food Inc., and his descriptions of the scenes from the movie made me decide to explore veganism. After watching a short video on YouTube called From Farm to Fridge, I was sure that living as a vegan was what I wanted to do. I started finding great vegan recipes and have found a new passion- cooking!! Good luck, and go you!! :)
