Vegan MoFo ~ Day 28: The Flaming Marshmallows

Vegan MoFo: Day 28

Mood: Tired

Hunger Level: Voracious

Hi! I hope everyone is MoFo’ing good.  I know I have been.  Somehow, in the past week my sweet tooth became enraged and all I’ve been in the mood to eat are sweets.  Well, okay and bread.  Sweets and breads and potatoes.  Can anyone see a pattern for disaster?  The weather here has gotten chilly, then warmed slightly, chilly, and so on.  I don’t know if it’s making me hungry or not, but I’ve sure picked up one hellacious appetite.  Which is great for my live-in vegan love since I’m always cooking, but bad for my ass that requires regular and systematic things called “exercise” and follows something called “sensible eating plan,” whatever that means.  All I know is that when I eat 1 large peanut butter chocolate thing (I don’t know what it was called, honest), my ass gets revenge by expanding to enormous proportions.  It plays tricks on me like, “not allowing my jeans to fit” and the ever clever, “allowing fat to roll over my jeans.”

So, yeah.  I have been eating.  And trust me when I tell you that no workout could work off the amount of stuff that I’ve eaten in the past week.  May I present: The stuff I ate last week, in no particular order

Lemon Poppy  Zucchini Bread from a recipe I found on nomeatathlete.com and yes, we did eat it all.  In. One. Sitting.  Oh, and the stuff on the side?  Vegan cream cheese and Earth Balance Butter.  Yes, I do wonder why my pants are tight.  Why do you ask?

Lemon Poppyseed Zucchini Bread

Or, how about these gems?  These are my, soon-to-be-famous Apple Pie Pops.  Sounds awesome, right?  Yeah, they are.  I took apples (I used fuji) and cooked them in a sauce made from apple cider, cinnamon, nutmeg (fresh please), and other various spices.  Once they were all ooey and gooey,  I packed some of the filling into itty bitty puff pastries and, viola!  Yummy for my tummy.

Or this….thing.  This massive peanut butter rice treat topped with a thick layer of dark, rich chocolate.  I found this at the Vegan Festival held by Angels for Animals in Canfield, Ohio.  It’s creator, Michele Stratton-Barratt,  owns The Flaming Ice Cube, a vegan restaurant and store in Boardman, Ohio.  All I can say is that these things are pure evil.  They are so good that you can’t stop eating them.  It’s impossible.  It doesn’t matter that it’s the size of your head, it’s good and you won’t put it down.  Yum in plastic wrap.  And, they are sold online.  Yes, I do look like a crazy lady.  That was nice of you to notice.

But these treats, while delicious and well worth the calories, are no match for what I experienced next.  It was magical, sublime and worth the hour long drive each way to obtain.  I had Dandies.  DANDIES!  Vegan marshmallows.  Oh, I know, you are all like, “They’ve been out forever! Where’s she been?!”  And, I’d have to say that I was at “I’m not spending $5+ for a bag of marshmallows,” vegan or not.  See, I love marshmallows.  I’m not your ordinary run-of-the-mill marshmallow girl either.  I’m a champion.  I can roast them on sticks, I can roast them on skewers.  I can roast them over fires, and I can roast them over my electric stove.  Whatever.

And shut up, I know- I look bat shit crazy.  See “Exhibit A” above with the peanut butter square?  That was gone before I started the marshmallows.  What?  I drove an hour each way.  Was I supposed to starve while a lonely peanut butter square was just sitting there?  No, I am courageous- I ate the square and the Dandies.  If not courageous, then extremely full.  Either way.

So what I’m trying to say is that I’ve ate pretty tasty, yet nutritionally defunct, vegan food in the past week or so.  I hope you have too.  Now if you’ll excuse me, I have cupcakes to bake.

LMAO. That bread and puff pastry looks so amazing. Cold Ohio weather makes for hungry vegans. Didn’t you know we are supposed to gain 10 lbs in order to survive January in Ohio.
