If you have ever visited Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary and been moved by a particular resident, then you now have an opportunity to share your experiences. Harvest Home will be holding its second annual photo contest, which offers a chance at submitting a photo of a resident animal for a grand prize. This photo represents more than just the resident animal and their experience, but your own experience as well, and the emotions you may draw from being at a sanctuary or with a rescued animal.

The theme this year is “I am a rescued ______.” The blank can be filled in with your creative choice, inspired by the photo and by the theme of a rescued resident, and most importantly, illustrates the individuality and intelligence of the resident. Along with your unique photo, this is an opportunity to put to words a distinct connection you may have with a special rescued animal. And that connection you share may go on to inspire others to view farm animals in a new, respectful, perceptive light.

Each submitted picture must be an original photo taken by you, and must be 5 megabytes or smaller. The submission also requires 150 words, or less, which tell the rescue story of the pictured animal. Submissions are due July 15, by 11:59 PM PST. Send your submission to [email protected] with the subject line Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary Photography Contest 2013 Submission from

[Insert: Entrant’s Name]. In the body of the e-mail, please include your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and the 150 word rescue story.

There is a five dollar entry fee, which can be paid through the sanctuary’s PayPal. (Please make sure to write into the purpose section of the payment form, “Photo contest 2013 [Insert: Entrant’s Name”)  This five dollar fee goes directly towards operating costs for the sanctuary.

The grand prize winner, and honorable mentions, will be announced July 20th. The grand prize will also be mailed out to the winner, and their photo will be featured on the sanctuary’s Facebook page. This is your chance to not only share your own views on rescued animals, but be creative while doing so. And that creativity helps Harvest Home and the animals who live there. What you say, and how you say it, helps to change the perception of farm animals, as more and more people share their experiences with these unique individuals at sanctuaries across the world.

Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary is located at 14741 Wing Levee Road, Stockton, CA 95206. To learn more about them, visit their website.
