This is so strange. I received this press release today from Ben Carlson via email: BioArts International Ends Cloning Service; Blasts Black-Market Cloners BioArts International, the Northern California biotech company that offered the world's first commercial dog cloning service, announced today that it had completed delivery of healthy cloned dogs to all five clients from its "Best Friends Again" program, but would discontinue cloning dogs commercially as a result of several problems. In a statement posted on the company's web site at www.bioarts.com, CEO Lou Hawthorne gave six reasons for his decision, including the failure of legal efforts to prevent Seoul-based RNL Bio from offering cloning services in violation of international patents. BioArts holds the sole, worldwide rights to clone dogs, cats and endangered species, which it licenses from Start Licensing of Austin, Texas. I've been reading a lot of griping lately on vegan blogs about unhealthy vegan "junk food". People naturally assume that all vegan food must be healthy since it doesn't contain any nasty animal ingredients, right? Well, no. Just because it is vegan doesn't make it healthy. And some bloggers want you to know that eating vegan junk food is not going to win you good eating awards anytime soon. But other bloggers, they adore vegan junk food and promote it as "quick food for busy people" or similar. Take this article, written by the Long Island Press, about food that's "good (and vegan)." D.C. VegFest this Saturday!
Get ready DC! The D.C. VegFest is this Saturday and it looks to be packed full of fun. And, the outdoor festival celebration of the veg lifestyle is free! Could it get any better than that? What is there to do at the VegFest you ask? Well, there are seven (that's right, seven, count 'em!) different speakers lined up for the event - ranging from Rory Freeman (author of Skinny Bitch) to Kenneth Williams (a vegan bodybuilder), and more in-between. There will be cooking demonstrations by vegan chefs, nine different food vendors (that you can actually eat at - finally!), eleven different commercial vendors, and more non-profit organizations that you can shake a stick at (not that you would want to!).
