NYC Foodie Announces Vegan Cooking Competition!
Watch out Top Chef, there's a new cooking competition in town and this one is cruelty free! Veggie Conquest is New York's newest cooking challenge and right now you can enroll to be a contestant, a taster (what a great job!) or a judge for the monthly events. Get ready, the first challenge takes place on Saturday, August 22, 2009 in Chelsea, Manhattan. And boy, they have some pretty awesome judges for the challenges debut. Judges will include blogger and fashion guru Joshua Katcher (TheDiscerningBrute.com); food blogger and author Kathy Patalsky (LunchBoxBunch.com); and food stylist and author Brian Preston-Campbell (Preston-Campbell.com). Three folks that really know vegan food. Okay, so here is how it works. Contestants prepare a vegan dish (at home), based on a secret ingredient and rules provided by Veggie Conquest. Then the dishes are presented before a panel of judges and tasters to decide who wins. There's even [...]

I am like, officially, in love with Vegan Brunch!
In my humble opinion, you can never go wrong with a cookbook from Isa Chandra Moskowitz. From Veganomicon (and those chickpea cutlets!) to Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World (no explanation needed here!), you always get a ton of great recipes that are pretty simple to make. Her latest book, Vegan Brunch, offers up some of her best "work" yet. So far, I've made the Banana Rabanada, Whole Berry Sauce, Garden Herb Spread and the Cashew Ricotta. I gotta tell you, I'm in love with the Cashew Ricotta. I've never cared for real ricotta, it always tasted spoiled to me. But Isa's version is heavenly. It's soft with the same texture of real ricotta without any of the nasty animal ingredients. And what makes it even cooler (as if that is possible), is that it's made with mostly tofu instead of raw nuts. Most of the faux ricotta recipes I've [...]
