Recently, Maggie Gyllenhal made a decision to help promote some baby stuff for Fisher-Price. The baby gear and newborn toys are wildlife themed and called the Precious Planet Collection.
So, apparently they had this event at Central Park Zoo. Fisher-Price tried to buy themselves a good image donated $250,000 to the Wildlife Conservation Society. Oh, you know, the organization that “…saves wildlife and wild places worldwide. We do so through science, global conservation, education and the management of the world’s largest system of urban wildlife parks, led by the flagship Bronx Zoo.
Together these activities change attitudes towards nature and help people imagine wildlife and humans living in harmony. WCS is committed to this mission because it is essential to the integrity of life on Earth.”
Because, you know, humans could not imagine living in harmony with wildlife if we couldn’t cage animals up.
A rep for Fisher-Price was quoted in saying:
”We see our zoo partners doing a terrific job of connecting children to nature and animals – developing what they hope will be a lifelong passion for conserving animals and their habitats.”
I am curious to know if they thought that “developing a habitat” was the really the same thing as conservation.
And, Fisher-Price developed a branding program with several national zoos. Some of these zoos even has the distinct honor of appearing on the In Defense of Animal’s Ten Worst Zoos for Elephants. You know, because Fisher-Price cares about the welfare of the animals at the zoos of their branding partners.
Fisher-Price currently partners with: Buffalo Zoo, Phoenix Zoo, Bronx Zoo, Lowry Park Zoo, Brookfield Zoo, Atlanta Zoo, San Francisco Zoo, San Diego Zoo, Toledo Zoo and San Diego’s Wild Animal Park Zoo.

So did Maggie Gyllenhaal do her homework on Fisher-Price before she agreed to pimp out some products? Sure doesn’t seem like it. Oh, wait. I forgot. Her record for animal rights isn’t that great. In November of 2008 Maggie was spotted at the MOMA Film Benefit Gala wearing what could only be called “a forest of animal hides” on her shoulder.
Much controversy ensued.
The verdict? Maggie Gyllenhall was found guilty of wearing real fox fur. So, I suppose selling out to Fisher-Price should be no surprise to me, or you.

Who cares if they are not genuine? At least it is getting done. There are very many people in this world that do not understand how to be selfless and caring, so if they choose to be wisely selfish then let them! And of course this program is not ideal, but at least it’s something. I get the feeling that you really don’t even know that much, you would just like to be angry about something. Most situations are not going to be ideal and if there is something that can be done, then do it. But if the only thing to do is sit on a website and blog about it, then maybe you don’t really have the place to choose.

Dangit and I really loved The Secretary… I won’t be able to enjoy it anymore.
