Sorry Kashi.  I know you are trying really hard to be “great tasting healthy” food and I want to give you props for that, I do.  But this pizza of yours kinda sucked.  Oh, it sounds good I’ll give you that much. “Sicilian Veggie made with eggplant, curly kale, fire roasted red peppers,& caramelized onions with a balsamic-infused white bean tomato sauce on a stone-fired crust made with Kashi 7 whole grains & sesame with flax seed.” Doesn’t it sound spectacular?  But sadly the taste wasn’t all that special. The crust was a bit harder than other crusts I’ve had from a frozen pizza before.  I didn’t mind that too much but I did mind the large pieces of eggplant (all 6 of them) that seemed out of place on the pizza.  They were too large of pieces (for me) and really didn’t have a flavor.  I did find the [...]

Sorry Kashi.  I know you are trying really hard to be “great tasting healthy” food and I want to give you props for that, I do.  But this pizza of yours kinda sucked.  Oh, it sounds good I’ll give you that much.

“Sicilian Veggie made with eggplant, curly kale, fire roasted red peppers,& caramelized onions with a balsamic-infused white bean tomato sauce on a stone-fired crust made with Kashi 7 whole grains & sesame with flax seed.”

Doesn’t it sound spectacular?  But sadly the taste wasn’t all that special.

The crust was a bit harder than other crusts I’ve had from a frozen pizza before.  I didn’t mind that too much but I did mind the large pieces of eggplant (all 6 of them) that seemed out of place on the pizza.  They were too large of pieces (for me) and really didn’t have a flavor.  I did find the white bean tomato sauce to be really lovely.  I liked the smooth texture and it had a decent flavor.  As for the rest, I couldn’t find the kale that was supposed to be on the pizza and, I discovered while doing this post, that there were supposed to be caramelized onions on the pizza but I didn’t notice those either.

I do have to give credit where credit is due though.  Kashi has really stepped up in the vegan frozen meal section.  They have a large selection of vegan meals from pizzas to bean bowls.  Plus, the packaging is a bit different than I remember.  It clearly reads vegan on the front and has a “v” by the ingredient list.  In addition, none of the meals were overly expensive.  And, even though I didn’t care for it much, the pizza I ate had 11 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber per serving.  That rocks.

So, while I won’t be eating this again, I might just try some of their other frozen vegan food.  See Kashi?  More vegan options means I’ll be buying from you again.  If this pizza was the only thing you had, well you might have lost a customer.  But now you have 7 or 8 more chances as I work my way through your vegan selections.  I’m sure to find something yummy with so many selections.  So Bravo to you Kashi.  Everyone should now follow suit and offer more vegan choices!

Wow, I never knew Kashi made a vegan pizza or had any vegan frozen meals. Now I have to look for them next shopping trip. That is great that they have at least a few vegan choices. Go Kashi!

Thank you for the heads up. I’m new to being vegan and all the info I can learn helps. I’m always leary about frozen foods, so I’m not surprised. I haven’t tried any kind of frozen vegan foods yet, just cooking up recipes found online or cookbooks, but it would be nice to have something quick and easy for a change.

Thanks for the review. I haven’t tried Kashi pizza’s yet but like you said, I’m at least glad that they’ve got their head in the vegan game. I too would be disappointed after finding no kale. Kale = amazingness.
