This quote is a complete fabrication. I spent two years as a PhD student studying Dr. King’s legacy, and I specifically researched about 500 quotations attributed to him by various social movements that wanted to co-opt his legacy. This was one of the more pernicious examples, as Dr. King never said it — and it has become nearly impossible to discern where it originated.
