Go Get Good Greens

A couple weeks ago my father called me to tell me that I had a delivery of candy bars that had been shipped to his house in error. The bars were actually Good Greens bars and there's a lot to like about them. Let me tell you all about it.

What's in this post

A couple weeks ago my father called me to tell me that I had a delivery of candy bars that had been shipped to his house in error.  I admit I was perplexed.  I mean, sure- I’ve eaten candy bars before, who hasn’t?  But I haven’t eaten one in years, and I’d never order a box of them to be shipped anywhere.  I asked who they were from and he said, “Green someone or another.”  I chuckled to myself and said that I’d pick them up later that day.

When I met with my father later to get the bars, he handed me an opened box saying, “I had that peanut butter candy bar, you’re lucky I didn’t eat the other one in there.”  I told him it would have been fine, of course, if he had had another one.  Immediately he perked up saying, “Really? Because I think I’d like to try that one there,” holding up the chocolate coconut flavor.  “Have it,” I said.  “I am,” he replied.  I laughed out loud.

So, what’s so funny about candy bars?  Nothing, but it wasn’t a box of candy bars that were at my fathers- it was a box of Good Greens bars.  All natural, vegan, raw, full of probiotics, antioxidants, gluten-free, low-glycemic, omega 3 and protein filled healthy snack bars.  And my father, the omnivore who-still-sometimes-thinks-I-eat-twigs, thought they were candy.

For a lot of folks, looking for something to snack on begins with what one might be craving.  Salty, sweet, crunchy- it all begins with taste.  And these bars taste good.  Really. Freaking. Good.  My father wasn’t joking, these are like a soft, chewy, chocolatey confection.  I tried every flavor sent to me (and, uh, maybe more than once) and loved every single flavor.

Aside from the taste, there’s a lot to like about these Good Greens bars.  Like how I get 100% of my RDA of vitamins in one bar.  Or how each bar is under 200 calories, isn’t filled with tons of fat, has a reasonable amount of carbohydrates, and 12 whopping grams of protein.  And my absolute favorite part, I like how energized I feel for a few hours after eating one.

And listen, I’m not saying any of this because I was sent a box of deliciousness.  Nope.  As a testament to how great these bars are, let me tell you about how I found a display at the grocer a block from my house with flavors I hadn’t tried!  In addition to the chocolate covered dreams, there’s also a line of Greek Yogurt covered bars.  I bought the Banana Nut and Apple Crumb.  I’ll admit, Banana Nut wasn’t my favorite- it was overly sweet, which wasn’t necessary with how very banana flavored it was- the Apple Crumb was much better.  Regardless, if I ever get the chance to taste the last two flavors I haven’t, Blueberry Bliss and Pumpkin Spice, I will jump on it.

These highly nutritious bars make me feel good about eating them even before I open one up.  They’re perfect for that ‘I’m running errands and don’t want to starve because I live in a town that has minimal places to dine as a vegan’ kind of day.  Actually, they’re also good for a pre-workout snack (did it) and a post-workout snack (did it).  They’re just good.

Another plus?  For me, they are a local company.  I love supporting local.

If you’re in NE Ohio like me, you can find Good Greens at Heinen’s, Marc’s, Mustard Seed Market, Daves’s Market, Buehler’s, Acme, Liquid Planet, or Constantino’s Market.  If you’re not, you can order Good Green’s online.  Buy them in bulk, trust me- these bars are worth hoarding.

Gratitude and thanks to Good Greens for graciously sending us some of their products to review.

Your review is one of many that I just read and the overall consensus is extremely positive for Good Green Bars. Too bad that they are still very local. Hope distribution picks up soon.
