Apocalyptic predictions and skepticism aside, peace talk always has me wondering if peace is possible on this planet. I've said it before; I agree with the statement “Peace begins on your plate.” Until we stop eating and exploiting animals, I'm not sure we can have peace.
Big business doesn't want its customers to think for themselves or to question their tactics. That would hurt the bottom line. They do their best to desensitize you and it starts when you're a child, that way your compassion can be stifled ASAP.
Sometimes, the tools to open a dialogue can be found in the most benign places. It's up to us to take the opportunity – like a cartoon about a fish – and make sure it's not tuned out by the exploitative world we live in.
I propose a new celebration. Let's make this upcoming Valentine's Day the start of something great. Let's make February 14 the first day in a year of love by way of veganism.
