Veggie Fest Chicago 2009 is August 8th & 9th

Veggie Fest is coming to Naperville, Illinois for two days packed full of veg fun.  And man, this veggie fest has it all!  There will be over 100 different vendors (including the Chicago Diner - EVERYONE loves the Chicago Diner!!), restaurants and exhibitors, speakers on both days, childrens activities and even live music.  And of course, veggie food to tempt your tastebuds. And the even is free!  What could possibly be better than that?!  I'd go if I was near Chicago on my birthday on August 8th for sure.  It sounds like so much fun! The Veggie Fest is held on the grounds of the Science of Spirituality Center, 48175 Naperville Rd., Naperville, Illinois.  If you have any questions you can contact them at 630.955.1200 or 800.222.2207. For a slew (and I mean a SLEW) of information, check out their website at http://veggiefestchicago.org.  Have a good time!

Love is…

Rearranging your house so that the dachshund has a pillow/dog bed/blanket to lay on in a sun spot - regardless if it is in the middle of the floor where you can trip over her or not. Crazy is when you spend five minutes trying to get said dachshund to open her eyes for a picture by crawling all over the floor and baby talking.  Smart is when the dachshund ignores you until you reach for a treat (even though she just had breakfast) so that she'll pose for a picture, only to find out that the dachshund cunningly eats the treat without opening her eyes.  Dejected is when you realize that she isn't going to pose.  Rejected is when you realize that she doesn't care about you at all while there is sun around.  And finally, shame is when you are dominated by a 8lb dachshund and you share [...]

Shut up ABC, just shut up.

Who are these knuckleheads over at ABC's Good Morning America?  They have produced a piece titled 'A promising new drug to control obesity and diabetes is in the works'.  The video shows a graphic of a syringe sticking out of a rat's back.  Yes.  The "scientists" are "testing" the drug on rats- not on the humans who are supposedly going to use it. A few interesting quotes from their story: (paraphrased) "Science is about to help you lose weight without drastic diet or punishing exercise" ~ He's basically saying we're all stupid and lazy.  Please tell me why a healthy, natural diet is drastic.  If one ate healthy, one could get by with exercise that's fun. "Americans dream of a quick fix to lose weight" ~ We're stupid and lazy again. "New drug suppresses appetite and increases metabolism" ~ This is an unnatural state.  This is what they're doing to [...]

I had this today and it kinda sucked.

Sorry Kashi.  I know you are trying really hard to be "great tasting healthy" food and I want to give you props for that, I do.  But this pizza of yours kinda sucked.  Oh, it sounds good I'll give you that much. "Sicilian Veggie made with eggplant, curly kale, fire roasted red peppers,& caramelized onions with a balsamic-infused white bean tomato sauce on a stone-fired crust made with Kashi 7 whole grains & sesame with flax seed." Doesn't it sound spectacular?  But sadly the taste wasn't all that special. The crust was a bit harder than other crusts I've had from a frozen pizza before.  I didn't mind that too much but I did mind the large pieces of eggplant (all 6 of them) that seemed out of place on the pizza.  They were too large of pieces (for me) and really didn't have a flavor.  I did find the [...]

Duh, American Dietetic Association, duh.

The American Dietetic Association has now released an "updated" position paper stating that "appropriate planned vegetarian diets are healthful and may help in disease prevention and treatment."  Gee, it's healthy, you think? Here's the press release: "The American Dietetic Association has released an updated position paper on vegetarian diets that concludes such diets, if well-planned, are healthful and nutritious for adults, infants, children and adolescents and can help prevent and treat chronic diseases including heart disease, cancer, obesity and diabetes.  ADA’s position, published in the July issue of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, represents the Association’s official stance on vegetarian diets: It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages [...]
