Tempeh makes my belly smile

I've been on a cooking kick lately, I think it's all the great food I find at the farmers market.  The farmers markets here are only open for a few months and I take advantage of them as much as possible! Last night I couldn't decide what I wanted to eat. So, I went out to my own herb garden and cut a slew of basil, oregano, chives, thyme and cilantro. Then I picked some cherry tomatoes (yum!) and inside I went to see what I could come up with. Here's my dinner: Pita pockets stuffed with tempeh salad, lettuce and tomatoes. Heaven! Let me tell you what I did.  First, I took an 8oz package of tempeh and cut it in two.  I put both pieces into the steamer.  While that was going, I took some onions and peppers and lightly cooked them in a bit of canola oil.  [...]

Two words: Dennis. Kucinich.

I know that he needs no introduction, but Dennis Kucinich, Democrat for OHIO, is a vegan. Yay! He recently sat down to put together this video for the world’s first annual Vegan Earth Day Celebration held on June 21st. The Celebration was held at Pierce College in Woodland Hills California. Here is the video: I mean, this guy is so brilliantly simple. I don't even need to say anything. Dennis has said it all for me. Go Vegan!

The great cupcake battle

So, I finally broke down and bought 'Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World' by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero.  If you haven't purchased this book then you should.  This book, this gem of a book, is now responsible for the added 10 pounds of cupcake-y goodness that now resides on my rear end.  And I'm not complaining a bit.  These things are good. I decided that I would test these cupcakes out at a barbecue hosted at my house.  So I set to baking.  First, I should mention that I don't have a baking bone in my body.  I can cook and I like to think that I can cook well.  But baking is a whole different ball game for me.  I can eat baked goods all day long but baking them poses more problems than I care to deal with.  I've always thought that some people are [...]

A heartfelt thank you to, well you.

I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who send well wishes to me and my family.  It is never easy to loose a loved one, whether in furry form or human, but well wishes do help.  It is a comforting feeling and I appreciate each and every message on YDV or Twitter.  Thank you, seriously, thank you for being kind. I have to admit, it was strange not to be attached to this blog last week.  From vet visits, hurting my back (greyhounds are heavy!), secret projects (to be announced later) and dealing with my own grief, I just needed to be away.  I wanted to take the time to reflect on things, as death inevitably makes me think about my own life.  And, honestly, I wanted to attach myself to my own companion animals and spend as much time with them as possible appreciating [...]
