Virginia is trying to get special vegan (and vegetarian) license plates made. That's cool!

In this article

I used to live in Norfolk, Virginia.  I loved the weather, the beaches, the people, and even the food.  And if all of that wasn’t enough, now they offer up their very own vegan (and vegetarian) license plates.  Well, that is, they want to offer up special plates to vegans (and vegetarians).  Here’s the scoop directly from their website:

“Time is getting short, though – we need to have 350 prepaid applications by the end of November 2009 to submit, along with our plate design, to the General Assembly, then to the DMV, for approval. Please don’t wait, thinking “I’ll get it when it’s available at the DMV” – it WON’T be available at the DMV if we don’t get enough applications for approval. We’re not even close to our goal yet! PLEASE ACT NOW!!”

You know, a license plate might seem like a silly little thing.  But it’s an opportunity, a chance to show people that your choice to live without animal products is important.  The more visual something is, the more well known the cause will be.  Even if it’s nothing more than, “Vegan? Oh yeah, I saw a license plate with that on it somewhere.”  People will be more familiar with the term, and subsequently, the meaning of the word.  It’s a little way to become more “mainstream” and debunk stereotypes about vegans.  You know, like, we are all berry and twig eating folks that wear hemp sacks and birkenstocks.  And that, that is a good thing indeed.

Look how cool they look (Yes, I know they say vegetarian but they can also be made to say vegan!):

If I lived in Virginia still, I would totally get one.  Even if that meant I had to wait an additional hour in line, since it takes at least 3 hours to get through the line anyway.  Seriously, it took me 4 hours at the DMV to obtain a drivers license.  (Yes, it’s that busy at the Virginia Beach BMV)  Well?  What are you waiting for?  Go.  Go and get a vegan plate, you know you want to.  Besides, all the cool kids are doing it…
