- A representative from the Australian livestock export industry claims to be an “animal welfare specialist,” and says, “99.1 per cent of sheep and 99.9 per cent of cattle arrive (in the Middle East) fit and healthy.” Australia exports millions of sheep per year, so that’s thousands of sheep who don’t survive the 15-20 day voyage. Thousands of lives that don’t matter because they are “a minority.”
- Fisherman shoots sea lion for “taking his fish.” What’s interesting about the news video is the seriousness the authorities demonstrate while arresting the alleged killer. It’s unexpected, but hopeful to see some progress.
- Are Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz condoning animal cruelty by starring in a film which uses real bulls to re-enact the Pamplona bull run? Seven escaped bulls might be trying to tell us something.
- The upcoming climate change summit in Copenhagen already has some critics- with very legitimate critiques. “India’s Environment Minister suggests the world adopt vegetarianism if it is to tackle the greenhouse emission problem.” “More than 60 prominent agricultural scientists and leaders have decried the almost total absence of agriculture in the climate talks.”
