Ahead of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, in Doha, Qatar, on March 13-27, the European Union will ask for a global ban on fishing for Atlantic bluefin tuna.

Overfishing and surging demand has caused bluefin tuna stocks in the eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean to shrink 60 percent from 1997 to 2007.

Sixty percent.  In ten years.  There should be no argument here.  Bluefin Tuna is a sushi staple, so there will be heated debate, I’m sure.

The EU also wants elephants and polar bears added to the endangered list- as they should be.

I predict a good row on the horizon in Doha.  We’ll keep you posted.
