Hagfish slime: The clothing of the future? “For years, scientists have been looking for alternatives to synthetic fibres like nylon and lycra, or spandex, which are made from oil – a non-renewable resource. Hagfish slime has the potential to provide a natural and renewable alternative. But first, the experts need to work out how to increase the slime production. It’s unlikely that we will ever see massive hagfish farms. Hagfish don’t seem to respond well in these conditions.”

Why won’t Exxon come clean on Arkansas oil spill details? “An ExxonMobil pipeline broke on Friday evening, dumping thousands of gallons of tar sands oil in Mayflower, Arkansas. The Pegasus pipeline starts in Illinois and carries 95,000-barrels of oil per day from Alberta’s tar sands to refineries in Texas. At least 22 homes had to be evacuated after the spill, and local residents have posted some alarming photos and video of the mess in their streets and backyards. The group HAWK Center (Helping Arkansas Wild Kritters) is also posting photos of oiled birds that have been rescued and brought in.”
Eat fish and prosper? NPR continues their slide into the abyss of mainstream, non-critical journalism: “We’ve all heard that eating fish is good for us. Regularly eating fish has been linked to a host of health benefits – for our hearts, our eyes, and our brains.” On the same page is a link to, “Making bacon that’s healthier for you.”
