- To the delight of a minority, San Jose University provides vegan options for students. However, comments like this are invariably heard, “I personally don’t think the vegan diet is healthy, it is overplayed and more of a trend than a lifestyle change.” This came from the mouth of a senior nutrition-concentration in dietetics major. Let’s hope he doesn’t pursue this field into a career.
- A man in Massachusetts is charged with animal cruelty– against a cow. He pulled the cow, which strayed (tried to escape) from his farm, with his truck, back to his farm, then slaughtered it. I have no words, none.
- Virginia would like to follow a handful of other U.S. states and reintroduce elk for hunting and tourism purposes. As with the other states, the last wild elk were killed off in the 19th century. Hunters are thrilled, but livestock “farmers” are worried their “commodities” will get diseases from the elk. Sadly, the entire story is all about death and no one seems to see anything wrong with that. We want to protect our animals so that we can kill them ourselves?
- A University of Toledo researcher has won grants to find ways of testing products without the use of animals. This new research is a reaction to The EU ban on animal testing, not necessarily a reaction to the cruel practice of vivisection. “In Europe you can no longer test on animals, and more and more it’s headed that way.” I find that news thrilling.
